HIGH HOUSE MILL

Proof of the existence of this mill is mainly hearsay. The mill was apparently run by an undershot wheel in the stream crossing under the lane 40 yards south of the house. An elderly resident who died many years ago remembers seeing silk "top hats" made there by machinery. Further anecdotal evidence tells of a sluice and a mill pond fed from a stream running from Helm.

A small building in the gardens of the house, now demolished is said to have been the mill cottage.

STEPS END MILL

A find of coins and traces of a building close to the beck indicate that a mill existed here in the seventeenth century but nothing further is known.
