The famous Sedgwick Millennium Quilt

combining all the organisations in the village

The Quilt was commissioned in 1998 by Sedgwick Millennium Committee as a celebration of the new Millennium.  The main aims were to show what a wonderful place Sedgwick was to live in during the year 2000 and to involve groups of all ages who had a connection with the village.

Made up of 30 embroidered and appliquéd squares, the Quilt's 12 centre squares show an serial map of the village from Force Bridge over the River Kent in the west to Crosscrake Churchyard in the east.  The 18 outer squares were expertly sewn by members of village organisations.  In all, over 40 people aged 8 to 80 worked on it.

The Quilt was completed in February 2001 and unveiled by Mrs Susan Bagot of Levens Hall.  It is permanently housed in Sedgwick Village Hall, a lasting reminder of the talent that existed in our community in the year 2000.
